A fire has broken out along Interlake Rd. in south Monterey County this afternoon (Wednesday 8-26-09) and is threatening the rural community of Bryson-Hesperia (better known to some as Bison-Hysteria). The fire reportedly started just north of the Bryson-Hesperia road and is burning on both sides of Interlake Rd.
Our thoughts are with the people of Bryson-Hesperia and with the firefighters currently trying to get a handle on the blaze in very difficult conditions. Read the rest of this entry »

The Monterey County District Attorney has dropped all charges against Ivan Eberle, the caretaker at the MIRA observatory on Chews Ridge. Eberle had been charged with battery on a firefighter and interference with a firefighter in the line of duty (see earlier post for details). Read the rest of this entry »

Today’s rain set off a debris flow in Pfeiffer Creek. The flow may have put some water into the Big Sur Lodge. The highway is completely blocked and is expected to remain closed until sometime tomorrow. The Big Sur CATS site has posted some pictures. Read the rest of this entry »
