Crowds pack the streets of Santa Cruz for the finish of Stage 2 of the Tour of California. Not a bad turn-out for a day when sunshine kept alternating with hammering rain.

We knew cycling was popular, but the size of this crowd was amazing …
Even the rooftops were crowded …
And they weren’t in a hurry to leave …
But enough with watching people watch people ride bikes. Wild as the finish scene was, in terms of sheer fun, we’d still have to rank it below the ride we took up Mt. Hamilton to watch the race last year. Nothing quite beats riding the bike yourself!
