Some small new fires created an impressive traffic jam on Hwy. One in Big Sur today. One story is that a helicopter on its way to the Chalk Fire clipped a power line with its bucket starting a fire near the Tin House Rd. (on Michael’s Ridge between the Partington and McWay Creek drainages). Another story is that the fire along the Tin House Rd. had already started and that the helicopter was fighting it when it clipped the wire and started a second fire down near Partington Cove.
In any case, since only the lower mile or so of the Tin House Rd. failed to burn in the Basin Complex Fire, there isn’t much of anywhere for either of these fires to go. The only thing for sure is that traffic’s been backed up most of the day. Whatever the cause, we understand these fires are close to out.
Another fire was apparently burning on or near Clear Ridge. Big Sur Kate says this one seems to have been brought under control as well.
Chalk Fire acting up today. I have read it is a combo fire and burn-out operation. Today’s photos up on blog.
