Upstream of the Carmel River’s impressive Hiding Canyon Gorge, and at the end of a cul de sac trail, lies pleasant, spacious Round Rock Camp, enduringly popular with equestrians, hunters, fishermen and drunks. If Round Rock Camp is hopping, less exuberant campers will probably prefer a stay at the generally quieter Hiding Camp (conveniently located at the lower end of the gorge).
Round Rock Camp is nearly 10 miles, and many times that many stream crossings, from Los Padres Dam. You won’t want to head that way when the water is high.
