In camp in Pine Valley
A high (3,000+ ft.), hanging valley near the headwaters of the Carmel River, Pine Valley is a deservedly popular destination. Sandstone bluffs, open fields, and, of course, stately stands of ponderosa pine. Getting there is easy, since it’s only a little over 5 miles and mainly downhill from the China Camp trailhead (at over 4,000 ft.). Getting back out is a bit more strenuous, of course.
You won’t be tempted to linger on the Pine Valley throne in Winter
